What This Guide Is
The Colwyn Bay Guide at colwyn.org.uk is an independent visitor guide to Colwyn Bay and the surrounding North Wales coast — the Welsh Mountain Zoo, Victoria Pier, Eirias Park, the beach and promenade, and the nearby villages of Rhos-on-Sea, Old Colwyn, Mochdre and Llysfaen. It's built for people actively planning a visit: where to stay, what to see, where to eat, and how to get here and around.
The guide is part of the Croeso network, a family of independent destination guides covering towns across Wales. We are not a council or tourist board publication, and we are not affiliated with Conwy County Borough Council or Visit Wales — we link out to both where they're the best source for something (planning applications, official events listings, current byelaws), but the recommendations and write-ups on this site are ours.
How We Research and Write It
Where we can, we check facts against primary sources — council pages, an attraction's own website, its published prices and opening hours — rather than relying on secondhand summaries. Prices, opening hours, transport details and similar practical information change, sometimes without much notice, so we review pages periodically and note when they were last checked. If an official source is genuinely unclear or contradictory about something (a byelaw's enforcement, for instance), we say so rather than guessing at a confident answer.
Recommendations — the best restaurants, the best pubs, the best walks — reflect our own editorial judgement, informed by review sites, local reporting and, where possible, first-hand knowledge of the area. We're not a formal review publication and we don't claim professional critic credentials; think of this as a well-researched, opinionated local guide rather than an authoritative ratings body.
How the Guide Is Funded
The guide is free to read and funded through paid business listings (see our advertising page) and display advertising. These are kept separate from editorial content: paying for a listing gets a business a place in the relevant section of the guide, not a favourable review, and our recommendations are not for sale. We use Google-served ads, subject to your cookie consent choice on each page.
Corrections & Getting in Touch
